Life insurance:shift workers and heart attack

Monday, February 4, 2013

Research has found that Employees working shifts are at a greater risk of suffering heart problems.
A major review of how working patterns affect occupational health has revealed that working unsocial hours increases the chances of having a heart attack and stroke by more than 20 per cent and 5 per cent respectively and reinforces the need for such employees to have good life cover and best life insurance.
Shift patterns, particularly working during the night, have been linked with high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes for some time but it was unclear how such working would impact on the heart and arteries.
But this latest research, the largest of its kind involving 34 separate studies and more than two million people, found coronary events and strokes were more prevalent in those working shifts. The likelihood of such workers having coronary events was increased by 24 per cent, heart attacks by 23 per cent and the risk of stroke by 5 per cent.
Many of the research subjects were from Canada, where some 7 per cent of heart attacks could be linked to shift work. Dr Daniel Hackam, of Canada's Western University, confirmed that shift working was "associated with vascular events, which may have complications for public policy and occupational medicine", So we have to find out a solution for best life insurance as well as low cost life insurance.
