The insurance business attempts to set premiums at levels that allowpayment for all legitimate claims with money left over every year asprofit. To do this, insurance companies do their best to understand thecosts they will bear if they agree to cover individuals who will make upthe group whose risks are pooled. ;Health, disability and life insuranceoffer protection from the real costs of health care, premature death, anddisability by collecting premiums from many people but paying large claimson only a few. Premiums are set using information about individualshealth, lifestyle, family history, and diagnostic tests for everything fromdrug screening and heart monitoring to HIV tests.

Some may face penalty for shunning health
Tuesday, January 8, 2013
From Dugald McConnell, CNN | March 24, 2010
The health care law signed Tuesday by President Obama is projected to extend insurance coverage to roughly 32 million additional Americans, but what happens to those who don't get themselves covered by health insurance? The new law creates penalties in the tax code as an incentive. An adult who does not have health insurance by 2014 would be penalized $95 or 1 percent of income, whichever is greater, so long as the amount does not exceed the price tag of a basic health plan.
Will Obamacare raise the price of your pizza?
Tuesday, January 8, 2013
By Aaron E. Carroll, Special to CNN | August 9, 2012
Last week, John Schnatter, the founder and CEO of Papa John's Pizza, announced that the Affordable Care Act will raise the cost of his pizza 11 to 14 cents each, or 15 to 20 cents per order. This has caused some to gloat that Obamacare won't be "free" after all but will be passed down to consumers in the form of higher prices. Well, duh. For the sake of this discussion, I'm going to ignore the fact that Schnatter is a supporter and fundraiser for Mitt Romney, and take him at his word.

Double Digits Premium Increase

He'll learn real quick how to eat his own words:
"It's simple math"
I don't know why this should be an issue, the MLR requires 80% payout anyways. So, if the increase is too much, a refund will be coming.

So, listening to a CNBC health care analyst just now, talking about these rate increases. Of course, everyone has their head up their arse, not knowing the law as well as we do. She states:
"They are doing this because it's their last chance to take a bite out of the apple before obamacare kicks in".
First, no mention of the MLR requirement.
Second, no mention that rates will go even higher in 14'
I guess the uproar won't occur until 2014 when it hits everyone squarely in the face. Stupid uneducated **#*^!!
